PERSONAL

My journey began 51 years ago in Pensacola, Florida. My father, Harvey Cotten Jr. was an insurance adjustor and my mother, Marion, a stay-at-home mom. My parents were active in our church and community and I learned at an early age the importance of serving others.

My father campaigned for Reuben Askew and when he was elected Governor, Daddy was asked to join the staff as Executive Assistant to the Governor. We moved to Tallahassee in 1971. I was a page in the Florida Legislature as a sophomore in high school. As a student attending Florida State University, I volunteered to help in many local campaigns.

I graduated from FSU with a BS Degree in Audiology and Speech Pathology and from the University of North Florida with a M. ED in Deaf Education.

I am married to Bob Bryant and have lived in Powell for 26 years. Bob and I have 2 children. Our son, Adam, graduated from Powell High School in 2002 and is currently pursuing a career in editing and producing documentary films in New York. Our daughter, Lee, graduated from Powell High School as Valedictorian in 2007 and attends Rhodes College in Memphis. We are proud of our children's accomplishments and look forward to the great things they will achieve in the future.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

I have been actively involved in PTA holding many positions including Powell Elementary PTA president. I worked for Knox County schools from 1981-1988. I was privileged to participate in the East Tennessee Council on Children and Youth as President and Legislative Chair. The goal of the organization was to advocate for issues affecting children and youth.

I have served as a member of the Knox County Friends of the Library Board and I am chair of the Advisory Board for the Knox County Family Resource Center. A position I have held for the past 14 years. I am member of the Powell Business and Professional Association and the Karns Business Association.

My passion is families. I have been employed with Tennessee's Early Intervention System as an Early Intervention Teacher for over 20 years. I am privileged to work with families in their homes whose children, birth to three, have special needs.

I attend Second Presbyterian Church where I teach Sunday School for 3 and 4 year olds, participate as a high school youth advisor, and sing in our Praise Band.
